the woods around his family farm. His love of the outdoors, especially managing the land for
wildlife, was passed down to him from his grandmother and mother. His grandmother was one
of the first farmers in the state to convert marginal agricultural land and pasture back into
woodlands. Along with his mother, he manages his family’s 360-acre farm for deer/wildlife,
timber, and agriculture. Parts of the farm have been in his family for over 125 years. For James,
it has been a proving ground for wildlife enhancement projects that include: food plots,
timber/forest stand improvements, invasive species control, prairie restoration, hardwood, and
softwood tree plantings, shrub plantings, enrolling in government programs such as CRP, CSP,
and MFL, pond construction, erosion control projects, and more. The farm also has a small
maple syrup operation that James started in 2006.
Working with his neighbors to improve wildlife habitat has been a passion of his as well. In 2014
James formed two Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) Cooperatives with his
neighboring landowners. In 2015 he formed a Quality Deer Management (QDM) Cooperative
with these same neighbors and many other neighboring landowners.
James is active in several hunting organizations including: National Deer Association, National
Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasant Forever, Wisconsin Bowhunters, and others. He is also a
member of the Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association, Bluebird Restoration Association of
Wisconsin, and the National Woodland Owners Association.
James first obtained his real estate license in 2006. Since then, he has sold apartment
buildings, residential homes, farms, and vacant land. In 2021 he was offered a position with
United Country as a Rural Property Specialist to focus his talents on the lifestyle he lives. It was
a good move for him, and 2024 was his strongest year of sales ever!

Chris was raised in Cottage Grove, MN, (a suburb of St. Paul, MN) but spent every moment he could on his grandparent’s farm in Northern Wisconsin. Growing up he was very active in baseball and hockey, playing on several traveling teams and enjoys watching his son do the same. He did however always found the time to hunt, fish, and other outdoor activities with friends and family. Chris has spent the past 29 years as a Sergeant for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and has since retired. He feels retirement at a younger age has offered him the opportunity for a second career in an area and lifestyle he enjoys.
Through friend Coltyn Bettis. Chris was offered the chance to work alongside him for United Country Midwest Lifestyle Properties. It is very rewarding to him to be able to use his life experiences and passion for the outdoors to help like minded clients achieve their goals. His knowledge of rural properties and ability to listen and relate to people are his strong suits. Chris makes sure his clients see that he is working for them with their best interests in mind.
Chris has enjoyed being a Home/landowner his whole adult life. He wants to help people do the same when buying real estate and also to understand that when you sell, you are selling a piece of your life. Whether it be that starter home or the farm that has been in the family for generations.
Chris is active in several outdoor organizations including: National Deer Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasant Forever, Wisconsin Bowhunters, and others. Being a rural land owner himself, he also enjoys improving wildlife habitat & being an overall steward of the land.
